Content: (Topic):  Variation of Predatory and Prey

Instructional Strategies: (Specific) Experiential Learning

Outcomes: PE3.3Express and apply, with guidance, a variety of ways to skillfully move the body through space while participating in movement activities, including at a: utilization level of skill when: – jumping backwards and landing – hopping (body moves on one foot as in right foot to right foot) – skipping (combines a step and a hop) – leaping (body `takes off’ from one foot, propels through the air for distance, then lands on the opposite foot) – sliding (one-foot steps, body propels upward, other foot moves to meet the first foot) – galloping (one-foot steps, body propels upward, other foot moves to meet the first foot) – rolling forward (see note) – rolling sideways – control level of skill when: – rolling backwards (see note on page 34).

Prerequisite Learning: Circuit training with the exercises. Tagging games with variations as well.

Differentiated Learning/Adaptive Dimension:

  1. Give instructions clearly and repeat so that everyone understands.

  2. Ask questions to ensure students understand. Such as: Do you understand what we are doing?

  3. Talk Loudly for student with hearing restrictions.

Preparation: (Materials, resources, equipment)

  1. Gym space. (half the gym is ok)

  2. Pylons

  3. Sheets of exercises for them to choose from.Set up

  4. Mark out a small freeze area with cones.

  5. Hang up the choices of exercises on the wall.

  6. Choose 3 students to be the “Predators” the rest of the students are the “Prey”

Gameplay

  1. The “Prey” must avoid getting tagged by the “Predators”.

  2. If you get tagged the robber has to take you to jail. (Be respectful of personal space. DO NOT GRAB AND PULL THE OTHER STUDENT. Be as gentle as possible. You will have to skip to the jail together.

  3. To get out of jail the students have to do a challenge of their choosing that will be on the wall. They must pick a new challenge every time.

* We will change the Predators every 4-5 minutes.

Variations

Change the method of movement of everyone throughout the game.

  1. Skipping

  2. Hopping on both foot

  3. Hopping on one foot

  4. Sidestepping.

  5. Walking backwardsStudent Engagement/ Classroom Management Strategies

Reinforce the importance of being honest and respectful of others.

Talk loudly and ask questions to ensure all students have an understanding. Use the thumbs up, thumbs sideways and thumbs down close to your method.
